Evolution
Open standards must allow for innovation and interoperability.
We can't let a single company's interests get in the way of realizing the smart grid.
We need open standards that allow for seamless interoperability between hardware, software and other systems in the grid. And they all must entice future innovation. Utilities and regulators need to demand standards that allow for this integration and for evolution.
The Itron Perspective
Itron designed OpenWay®, our advanced metering application for the smart grid, as an open, adaptable framework.
We currently support numerous standards and can easily integrate with leading solutions. Our combination of ANSI C12.22 and Internet Protocol (IP) to the meter is unique in this space. We challenge others to adopt an open standards model for the sake of interoperability and for the success of the grid.
